About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Trial Advocacy program, including teaching specialized courses in Trial Advocacy, Jury Selection, and Expert Witness Testimony
  • Lead and coach Mock Trial competition teams
  • Teach one or more doctrinal courses such as Criminal Law, Evidence, Criminal Procedure, or Torts
  • Supervise and collaborate with other trial advocacy faculty to develop new curriculum
  • Participate in running the National Ethics Trial Competition (NETC)
  • Conduct scholarly research and writing in relevant legal fields
  • Participate in the intellectual life and faculty governance of the law school

Requirements

  • Juris-Doctor (J.D.) degree
  • Post-J.D. legal experience, including experience as a trial lawyer (criminal or civil)
  • Three years of experience teaching in and/or directing a trial advocacy program at a U.S. law school, or equivalent
  • Active membership in a state bar association

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience teaching or directing a trial advocacy program
  • Record of involvement in national or state advocacy organizations (e.g., NITA, LAAC, NALAE)
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
