Assistant Professor of Africana Studies

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in the Africana concentration within the Social Relations major, including Introduction to Africana Studies, African History, African American History, African American Politics, and Africana Philosophy
• Complete required course and program assessments
• Engage in departmental and university-wide service
• Participate in extra-curricular activities such as university open houses
• Engage in scholarly and professional development as outlined in University Tenure and Promotion Policies

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Africology (African American Studies or Africana Studies)
• Experience teaching core courses in Africana Studies
• Experience teaching and working with students from marginalized groups
• Demonstrated student-centered teaching practice
• Effective use of classroom technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching distance education courses
• Demonstrated ability to mentor students from marginalized groups for conference presentations
