Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Responsibilities

• Conduct research at the intersection of applied linguistics and artificial intelligence, focusing on language-generating technologies and human-computer interaction.
• Teach undergraduate courses in general linguistics, applied linguistics, and electives for the Applied Artificial Intelligence minor.
• Develop and teach graduate-level courses in areas such as AI-assisted language learning, automated dialogue systems, or computational text analysis.
• Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with faculty across campus to support strategic initiatives related to trusted innovation and AI.
• Contribute to the academic community through service, research, and high-quality teaching.

Requirements

• PhD in applied linguistics, linguistics, natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, or a related field conferred by the time of appointment.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Established or emerging research agenda in the development or use of AI applications within applied linguistics.
• Demonstrated ability to apply AI in innovative ways for language teaching, assessment, or analysis.
• Experience teaching or assessing language and communication at the college level.
• Proven potential for interdisciplinary collaboration and developing high-impact, externally funded research programs.
