Assistant Manufacturing Department Manager

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in all manufacturing processes and procedures
• Direct, motivate, and coordinate the activities of assigned employees
• Oversee production operations to identify and address equipment or process issues
• Maintain accurate production records and clerical activities within management systems
• Train new employees on production procedures, safety standards, and plant equipment
• Enforce company safety policies to ensure a safe working environment
• Monitor daily shift operations and report issues or concerns to the Production Manager
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Oversee production quality to ensure high standards and finished product excellence
• Communicate with maintenance teams regarding equipment repairs and needs
• Apply knowledge of union contracts and assist in the Step 1 grievance process
• Provide leadership and manage department operations independently to cover staffing gaps

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Proven ability to supervise a large group of hourly, union employees
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute projects
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple operations simultaneously
• Ability to lead, supervise, and take decisive action to achieve goals
• Must be flexible and available to be assigned to any shift (1st, 2nd, or 3rd)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing or packaging experience
• Some college coursework
