Assistant Headteacher

Responsibilities

• Take strategic and operational lead for safeguarding and child protection across the school
• Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and key point of expertise for staff
• Work closely with external agencies including social care, police, and local authorities
• Manage referrals and maintain accurate safeguarding records and systems
• Lead safeguarding training and promote a strong culture of wellbeing
• Oversee strategies to improve student attendance and engagement
• Support students' wider personal development and contribute to school improvement planning

Requirements

• Significant experience leading safeguarding within a school setting
• Valid DSL training (or willingness to complete it)
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and processes
• Proven experience in multi-agency working and managing complex cases
• Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills
• A deep passion for student safety, wellbeing, and inclusion
