About the role
Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise all operations of the horticulture enterprise, including production planning, propagation, cultivation, irrigation, and harvest.
- Direct market horticultural crops to internal and external customers.
- Maintain production, sales, and certification records, including USA National Organic Program documentation.
- Supervise, train, and coordinate student labor teams with an emphasis on safety, stewardship, and workplace acumen.
- Provide oversight of farm equipment, tools, greenhouse/high tunnel systems, and facilities.
- Collaborate with faculty to support the use of the farm for academic courses and laboratory activities.
- Assist with other farm tasks as needed, such as livestock care and supply chain management.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for farm emergencies during weekends and holidays.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in field or horticultural crop production.
- Knowledge of organic or low-input production methods.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to repeatedly lift 75 lbs. or more and engage in rigorous physical activity.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial-scale organic crop production.
- Knowledge of farm infrastructure maintenance and minor mechanical repairs.
- Experience operating tractors and truck/trailer combinations.
