Assistant Editor

Responsibilities

• Perform enhanced quality checks and suitability assessments on manuscripts to ensure they meet requirements for peer review
• Manage the journal pipeline by processing manuscripts from initial submission through to final decision
• Invite and assign Editorial Board Members (EBMs) to handle manuscripts appropriately
• Handle professional email correspondence between authors, reviewers, editors, and guest editors
• Monitor the progress of the review process and provide support to ensure timely final decisions
• Assess decision recommendations from handling editors and communicate final outcomes to authors
• Collaborate with journal editorial staff to identify process improvements and reduce turnaround times
• Mentor and support new team members within the editorial operations department

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience
• Master's degree or equivalent in a STEM field (Medicine, Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or Engineering)
• Subject matter expertise in STEM disciplines
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills and professional email etiquette
• Strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities
• Excellent organizational, decision-making, and time-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in manuscript handling
• Familiarity with manuscript management systems, editorial workflows, and publishing tools
