Assistant District Attorney III

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate-level legal work involving the prosecution and defense of civil and criminal matters in various trial, appellate, and administrative forums
• Appear in court to select juries, present and cross-examine evidence, make legal arguments, and act as an oral advocate
• Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal instruments necessary for litigation
• Investigate facts related to legal issues and develop solutions for clients
• Counsel and advise clients regarding legal issues throughout all phases of litigation within the bounds of confidentiality
• Identify, locate, and prepare witnesses and non-testimonial evidence for court proceedings
• Conduct and supervise investigations and civil or criminal discovery proceedings
• Negotiate with opposing parties to settle litigation or contested matters
• Provide written or oral legal advice to individual or governmental clients

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas
• Good standing with the State Bar of Texas
• Valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license
• Computer literacy
• Ability to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier

Preferred Qualifications

• Trial courtroom experience as an Assistant District Attorney or Prosecutor
• Specific expertise in criminal trial procedures
