About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform legal work involving the prosecution and defense of civil and criminal matters in various trial and appellate courts and administrative forums.
- Make decisions and counsel clients, victims, or law enforcement regarding the commencement of court proceedings.
- Provide written or oral legal advice and draft legal instruments or other documents with legal implications.
- Appear in court to select juries, present and cross-examine evidence, and act as an oral advocate.
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and responses necessary for litigation.
- Investigate facts related to legal issues and develop solutions for client legal problems.
- Identify, locate, and prepare witnesses and non-testimonial evidence for court proceedings.
- Conduct and supervise investigations and civil or criminal discovery proceedings.
- Negotiate settlements for litigation or other contested matters.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree.
- Current Texas Bar License in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Ability to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in high-pressure situations.
