Assistant District Attorney

Responsibilities

• Assess CJB case referrals to determine if alternatives to incarceration are appropriate
• Maintain a caseload of pre- and post-deposition treatment cases and ensure compliance
• Staff court parts, including JD/T and Veterans’ Court
• Participate in daily case conferencing meetings
• Conference cases with defendants, attorneys, and complainants regarding programming
• Cultivate relationships with partner agencies such as TASC, Bronx Community Solutions, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
• Attend trainings to stay current on alternatives to incarceration and mental health fields

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree
• Minimum of 3 years of criminal law experience
• Member in good standing of the NY State Bar
• US Citizenship and New York State Residency
• Strong knowledge of NYS Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law
• Demonstrated commitment to seeking alternatives to incarceration
• Strong communication and multi-tasking skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prosecutorial experience
• Background in social work, public health, or psychology
• Experience handling cases resulting in alternatives to incarceration or familiarity with treatment courts
