About the role
Responsibilities
- Assess CJB case referrals to determine if alternatives to incarceration are appropriate
- Maintain a caseload of pre- and post-deposition treatment cases and ensure compliance
- Staff court parts, including JD/T and Veterans’ Court
- Participate in daily case conferencing meetings
- Conference cases with defendants, attorneys, and complainants regarding programming
- Cultivate relationships with partner agencies such as TASC, Bronx Community Solutions, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs
- Attend trainings to stay current on alternatives to incarceration and mental health fields
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree
- Minimum of 3 years of criminal law experience
- Member in good standing of the NY State Bar
- US Citizenship and New York State Residency
- Strong knowledge of NYS Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law
- Demonstrated commitment to seeking alternatives to incarceration
- Strong communication and multi-tasking skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prosecutorial experience
- Background in social work, public health, or psychology
- Experience handling cases resulting in alternatives to incarceration or familiarity with treatment courts
