Assistant District Attorney - Appeals Bureau

Responsibilities

• Represent the People of the State of New York in appellate litigation on a wide range of constitutional and statutory law issues
• Address complex legal issues clearly and effectively in oral and written format
• Brief and argue a substantial caseload of appeals before the state and federal courts
• Handle post-conviction litigation, including direct appeals, motion responses, and federal writs of habeas corpus

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree
• 3+ years of appellate attorney experience or equivalent
• U.S. citizenship
• New York State residency as of the first day of employment
• Strong writing, research, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively under deadlines
• Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
• Excellent presentation and organizational skills
