Assistant Director of Safety and Security

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and supervision for departmental staff, including sergeants, security officers, emergency dispatchers, and student safety teams.
• Oversee critical internal and criminal investigations for the Safety & Security Department.
• Ensure compliance with various laws and mandates, including Title IX, Clery, VAWA, and NYS Education Law.
• Assist in developing emergency plans and providing off-hours supervision for key campus events.
• Support the Director of Safety and Security in assuming on-site command and control during emergency situations.
• Collaborate with campus entities such as Residence Life, Facilities Operations, and local Police and Fire/EMS agencies.
• Manage staff training and development to ensure compliance with the New York State Security Guard Act.

Requirements

• Associate degree required (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 2-3 years of supervisory experience in campus security, including patrol, investigation, and training.
• Valid New York State Security Guard License.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving history that meets university standards.
• Proven ability to communicate successfully with young adults, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to pass a detailed background and criminal records check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in law enforcement.
