Assistant Director, Law Career Services Office - Externship Program

Responsibilities

• Administer the externship program by liaising with community placements and solving student or supervising attorney issues.
• Oversee career exploration and professional development programming, including teaching one-credit externship seminars.
• Provide individual career counseling and assessment to law students and alumni, specifically regarding judicial clerkships and federal hiring.
• Lead the review and feedback process for a high volume of student and alumni application materials.
• Manage mock interview programs and coaching sessions to improve student performance.
• Develop mentorship and networking programs by building relationships with alumni and specialty bar associations.

Requirements

• Terminal Degree (or equivalent professional experience at a ratio of one year of experience for each year of required education).
• 3 years of related professional experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Strong organizational, time management, and priority-setting skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and interpret complex policies and regulations.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5-10 years of varied legal work experience (private firm, judicial clerkship, or public interest).
• Experience working in a higher education environment.
• Professional career counseling experience within an academic setting.
