About the role

Responsibilities

  • Implement infection prevention measures and conduct process analyses to assess and mitigate health risks.
  • Collaborate with senior clinical leadership to establish written programs for identifying and preventing infections.
  • Ensure compliance with NYC and NYS infection prevention, control, and safety standards.
  • Track infectious disease exposures, epidemics, and pandemics in coordination with the Department of Health.
  • Perform environmental sanitation monitoring and respond to accidental spills of chemicals or bodily fluids.
  • Manage immunization programs, including TB testing, flu vaccinations, and employee health clearances.
  • Provide clinical nursing care, including patient triage, medication administration, and documentation in EHR systems.
  • Oversee medical waste manifest reconciliation and maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Conduct infection prevention orientation and ongoing in-service training for medical staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and infection control certification.
  • Minimum of four years of directly related clinical or infection prevention experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, public health mandates, and immunization compliance.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing or public health.
  • Certification in Infection Control through the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC).
  • Experience working in a college or university health setting.
  • Experience with contact tracing and infectious disease reporting to Departments of Health.
