About the role
Responsibilities
- Research local, state, and federal laws, court decisions, and legal authorities
- Provide policy guidance and legal analysis to City Hall staff to advance mayoral initiatives
- Work with senior administration officials on transparency projects and Freedom of Information Law compliance
- Analyze conflicts, ethics, and privacy questions for the Mayor’s Office
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, releases, licenses, and other agreements
- Provide legal analysis regarding employment, EEO, and conflict matters
- Act as a City Hall policy advisor to agencies reporting to the Chief Counsel
- Review and make legal judgments about sensitive material
Requirements
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- 1+ years of relevant legal experience (civil rights, criminal defense, government service, private practice, or prosecutorial experience)
- Ability to manage a large portfolio of work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar
- Eighteen months of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial, or executive capacity
