About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide direct oversight of daily general accounting and financial reporting operations to ensure GAAP compliance.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure financial integrity.
- Manage the college’s accounting, fixed assets, and budget software and ERP systems.
- Oversee the financial management of federal, state, and local grants, including Title IV and AmeriCorps.
- Lead the annual budget process and manage quarterly budget reporting, including capital and maintenance budgets.
- Supervise the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes and prepare audit schedules for external audits.
- Manage fixed assets, depreciation processes, and investment accounts.
- Prepare data for financial statements, annual tax returns (Form 990), and various federal and institutional survey reports.
- Lead and manage a 5-person accounting team and intern, including hiring, training, and performance management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of direct work-related accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proven supervisory or leadership experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables) and financial ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
- Experience in a higher education financial setting.
- Experience with system conversions or large-scale ERP implementations.
