About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct criminal prosecutions in court proceedings on behalf of the City Government
- Manage prosecutions of appeals from Municipal Court to County, Circuit, and State courts
- Gather, review, analyze, and present evidence and legal authorities in legal proceedings
- Question witnesses, police officers, and law enforcement personnel
- Conduct criminal litigation including trials, appeals, hearings, and pre-trial discovery
- Perform legal research and fact-finding using computer databases and electronic searches
- Recommend withdrawal or dismissal of criminal cases based on evidence and public interest
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Membership in good standing with the Mississippi Bar
- 3-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney with a focus on criminal law
- Experience in cases before municipal and state courts in Mississippi
- Valid Mississippi driver’s license
- Ability to practice before the County and Circuit Courts of Harrison County and the Mississippi Supreme Court/Court of Appeals
Preferred Qualifications
- High level of proficiency in Incode, TCM, Microsoft Office, and video software (Avail)
