Assistant City Prosecutor

Responsibilities

• Conduct criminal prosecutions in court proceedings on behalf of the City Government
• Manage prosecutions of appeals from Municipal Court to County, Circuit, and State courts
• Gather, review, analyze, and present evidence and legal authorities in legal proceedings
• Question witnesses, police officers, and law enforcement personnel
• Conduct criminal litigation including trials, appeals, hearings, and pre-trial discovery
• Perform legal research and fact-finding using computer databases and electronic searches
• Recommend withdrawal or dismissal of criminal cases based on evidence and public interest

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
• Membership in good standing with the Mississippi Bar
• 3-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney with a focus on criminal law
• Experience in cases before municipal and state courts in Mississippi
• Valid Mississippi driver’s license
• Ability to practice before the County and Circuit Courts of Harrison County and the Mississippi Supreme Court/Court of Appeals

Preferred Qualifications

• High level of proficiency in Incode, TCM, Microsoft Office, and video software (Avail)
