About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide research-based information and educational opportunities to stakeholders in Madison and Tensas parishes regarding agriculture and natural resources.
- Deliver programming through various methods including on-farm visits, area-wide demonstrations, workshops, field days, and educational meetings.
- Establish advisory committees to identify clientele needs and develop extension programming.
- Disseminate LSU AgCenter recommendations via newsletters, factsheets, social media, and press articles.
- Contribute to parish web pages and assist in providing pesticide re-certification training.
- Engage with agricultural organizations such as Farm Bureau, Cattlemen’s Association, and Master Gardener groups.
- Maintain professional development to remain current with agriculture and natural resources research.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree in agronomy, crop science, soil science, agribusiness, agricultural sciences, pest management, biological sciences, agricultural education, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA (on a 4.0 system).
- Minimum 3.0 graduate GPA if graduate work was attempted.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Possession of a personal automobile and appropriate insurance coverage.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and perform occasional overnight travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related agricultural or biological field.
- Knowledge of public relations.
- Ability to function with minimum supervision and work cooperatively within a team.
