Assistant/Associate Curator of Academic Programs

About the role
Responsibilities
- Work closely with faculty to facilitate the use of museum collections in their curricula
- Lead and co-facilitate discussion-based sessions for classes in museum galleries and study rooms
- Develop teaching exhibitions that support courses and highlight current research
- Implement new strategies to encourage innovative faculty and student engagement with the collection
- Support faculty development through initiatives such as pedagogical workshops and curriculum grants
- Liaise with museum staff regarding art moves, teaching, and public programs
- Assist with the assessment and evaluation of the Office of Academic Programs through data analysis
- Participate in the larger museum community through conferences, presentations, and publishing
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Master's degree in an object-focused field (e.g., Art History, Studio Art, Anthropology, or Archaeology)
- Professional museum experience (4 years for Associate level; 2 years for Assistant level)
- Teaching experience in museums or higher education
- Broad knowledge of art and material culture
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Art-handling experience, particularly with works on paper
- Experience with TMS (The Museum System) and project management software
- Foreign language skills
