Assignment Editor

Responsibilities

• Monitor traditional and social media for breaking weather news stories
• Communicate with officials and sources to gather editorial information
• Pitch unique guests, stories, and segments to the newsroom
• Conduct in-depth research and compile reports for field teams
• Find and select compelling live visuals, sound, video clips, and graphics
• Manage daily deadline turnarounds in a fast-paced live show environment
• Coordinate with correspondents, contributors, and third-party resources
• Build relationships with assignment desks at FOX affiliates and news partners

Requirements

• Experience with TV newsgathering, assignment desk, or field production
• Strong editorial judgment and the ability to react quickly to breaking news
• Ability to solve problems quickly and stay calm under pressure
• Willingness to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks accurately
• Basic understanding of meteorology and weather science concepts
• Familiarity with newsroom systems such as iNews or similar editorial tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
• Degree or certification in meteorology or atmospheric sciences
• Previous network-level or national newsroom experience
• Deep interest in severe weather patterns and their impacts
