ASL Lab Mentor

Responsibilities

• Tutor ASL students one-on-one or in small groups within an immersion setting to assist with assignments and skill mastery
• Design educational activities and materials, including ASL videos, in collaboration with instructors
• Mentor students on the cultural and social conventions of the contemporary Deaf community
• Provide online and videophone assistance to ASL and Interpreting students
• Support students with technological needs and the use of lab equipment
• Maintain the ASL lab, including supplies, materials, and preventative equipment maintenance
• Maintain accurate student documentation and attend required training sessions

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Fluency in American Sign Language (to be determined by faculty during interview)
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Ability to pass a Missouri State Background Check
• Proficiency with basic computer applications

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience working with students or mentees in a supportive educational setting
• Experience in activity design, direct instruction, and skill analysis
• Willingness to learn Mac computer applications
