Area Health Information Specialist II

Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for all privileged patient records
• Prepare new patient charts and assemble medical records accurately from paper and electronic sources
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record system
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, data entry, and scheduling pick-ups
• Train and assist Health Information Specialist I associates and act as a lead for staff questions
• Generate reports for management and participate in project teams and operational initiatives
• Meet or exceed level 1 productivity expectations and inform manager of site difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• Experience managing or processing medical records and health information
• Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical privacy standards
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and facility software systems
• Ability to lead, train, and support new and junior staff
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for data entry and record assembly
