Area Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests accurately and efficiently
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information in compliance with HIPAA
• Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper and electronic health record sources
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls, assist with patient walk-ins, and handle administrative duties
• Meet productivity expectations and report site difficulties or volume fluctuations to management

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to commute between locations; onsite in Memphis, TN with possible travel to Southaven, MS or Oxford, MS
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accurate and compliant medical records

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous healthcare environment or production/metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
