Area Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Receive and process patient health information requests per company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for all privileged information
• Prepare new patient charts by gathering documents from paper and electronic sources
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls from patients, insurance companies, and attorneys
• Assist with patient walk-ins, administrative duties, and scheduling pick-ups as needed
• Meet productivity expectations and report site difficulties or volume fluctuations to management

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Detail-oriented with focus on accurate and compliant medical records
• Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons
• Capable of organizing and managing multiple tasks with minimum supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
• Comfortable providing process improvement suggestions and feedback to stakeholders
