About the role

Responsibilities

  • Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting), Stage 3 site-specific assessments, and Stage 4 mitigations.
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of detailed field notes and surveying/grid set-up.
  • Work independently when necessary, connecting with Field Supervisors for clarity and direction.
  • Support Field Supervisors and provide guidance and mentorship to other field technicians.
  • Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior with a "Safety First" focus.
  • Work outdoors in a wide variety of weather and ground conditions.

Requirements

  • At least three (3) field seasons of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation.
  • Knowledge of archaeological artifacts.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as hand shoveling, troweling, and screening soil.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work outdoors for long days in rough terrain and harsh elements.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Reliable transportation to and from designated project sites or office meet spots.
  • Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects, including hotel stays, as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
