Archaeology Field Technician I

Responsibilities

• Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting), Stage 3 site-specific assessments, and Stage 4 mitigations.
• Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance to other field technicians in a team environment.
• Maintain a high standard of ethical and professional behavior with a strong focus on safety.
• Work outdoors in a wide variety of weather and ground conditions.

Requirements

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including hand shoveling, troweling, and screening soil.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work in rough terrain for long days.
• Valid Ontario driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract.
• Reliable transportation to and from designated project sites or office meeting points.
• Ability to travel and work on out-of-town projects, including hotel stays, as required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to share information and concerns with supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
• One (1) field season of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and test unit excavation.
• Knowledge of archaeological artifacts.
