Archaeological Field Director

Responsibilities

• Lead field surveys for simple to complex projects with accurate data collection
• Organize fieldwork mobilization and demobilization
• Mentor crews of Archaeological Technicians in survey strategies and artifact identification
• Collect data using GPS units (Trimble, Garmin, or iOS Field Collector)
• Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget
• Maintain safety awareness and follow field protocols

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Archaeology or equivalent discipline
• Previous permit to work as a field director on state, BLM, and forest lands in Arizona
• 3+ years of supervisory field experience with permitting agencies
• 5+ years of experience with Class III archaeological surveys, monitoring, or testing in the Southwest
• Proficiency in site recording for historic and prehistoric sites
• Strong technical writing skills for Class I and Class III reports
• Ability to work in inclement weather and rugged terrain
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate 4-wheel high clearance vehicles
• Ability to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
