About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare metallographic samples using cutting, mounting, grinding and polishing equipment
- Perform visual and microstructural assessments of metallic materials
- Support metallurgical investigations involving iron and nickel-based alloys
- Operate laboratory equipment safely and effectively
- Assist with optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy examinations
- Support mechanical testing activities and prepare technical data and reports
- Assist Materials Engineers with failure investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Support on-site inspection and sample preparation on turbine components
- Maintain laboratory organization, housekeeping, and 6S standards
Requirements
- Meet entry requirements for a relevant Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship programme
- Strong interest in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering or Manufacturing
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office
- Fluent in written and spoken Business English
