Applied Scientist

Responsibilities

• Build models to support critical decisions regarding pricing, resale strategy, and portfolio risk
• Develop demand and conversion models utilizing both pre-listing and post-listing signals
• Design and improve optimization frameworks that balance margin, conversion, and risk
• Apply statistical, econometric, and mathematical modeling techniques to complex structural problems
• Design experiments and measurement approaches to quantify price elasticity and customer response
• Partner with Engineering, Product, and Operations teams to integrate models into production systems

Requirements

• Advanced degree (MS or PhD preferred) in statistics, mathematics, economics, operations research, or computer science
• Experience developing quantitative models for real-world decision-making under uncertainty
• Strong Python coding skills with the ability to implement production-quality scientific code
• Experience with one or more: causal inference, Bayesian modeling, structural modeling, demand forecasting, pricing science, or mathematical optimization
• Ability to work with messy, high-dimensional data and translate ambiguous problems into rigorous models
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in pricing, marketplace modeling, revenue management, or inventory optimization
• Background in real estate, housing, finance, or adjacent marketplace domains
• Familiarity with distributed data processing tools such as PySpark
• Experience with machine learning methods, including deep learning and LLMs/VLMs
