Applied AI Tech Lead

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of customer AI deployments end-to-end, from initial conversation to production.
• Translate ambiguous customer needs into clear technical plans with defined owners and timelines.
• Set the architecture and engineering standards for the team to build within.
• Make critical decisions on technical tradeoffs regarding what to build, reuse, or defer.
• Mentor and grow engineers while maintaining a high bar for code and system quality.
• Partner directly with customers to manage scope, timelines, and delivery quality.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading significant engineering work as a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Engineering Manager.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic systems, or the technical depth to master them quickly.
• Demonstrated ability to break down complex, ambiguous problems into actionable tasks for engineering teams.
• Strong technical leadership skills, whether through architectural authority, people management, or both.
• Ability to work on-site in San Francisco.
• High agency, low ego, and a commitment to high engineering standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience shipping production-grade AI or Machine Learning systems.
• Background in customer-facing or forward-deployed engineering roles.
• Experience working in regulated, high-reliability domains such as healthcare, finance, or legal.
• Previous experience managing or growing small engineering teams.
