Applied AI Engineer

About the Company

Zania is building agentic AI for Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) to disrupt legacy platforms. Backed by NEA, Anthropic, and Menlo Ventures, we are building intelligent agents that execute complex workflows with full explainability.

Responsibilities

• Build and fine-tune foundation models on proprietary data to achieve high accuracy on complex GRC tasks
• Develop sophisticated, multi-step agentic workflows to automate risk assessment and compliance monitoring
• Implement methods for AI explainability, safety, and transparency
• Rapidly prototype and integrate state-of-the-art research including agents, RAG, and new architectures into production-grade features
• Partner with GRC subject matter experts to create ground-truth datasets

Requirements

• 3+ years in an applied AI or machine learning engineering role
• Proven experience shipping reliable, production-scale ML products
• Hands-on expertise with LLMs, including fine-tuning, RAG, and agentic systems
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Strong ability to communicate technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with offline evaluation and online experimentation
• Experience building advanced RAG pipelines over massive unstructured datasets
