Applied AI Engineer

About the Company

Etched is building hardware for frontier intelligence. We co-design chips, racks, software, and manufacturing to deliver best-in-class throughput and latency across both prefill and decode workloads. Our first products are heavily focused on inference.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy, and maintain LLM-agent workflows that accelerate chip development including debug triage, testbench work, and EDA script generation
• Embed with hardware teams to identify high-leverage pain points and automate them into workflows
• Design rigorous evals for agent performance on real silicon-engineering tasks
• Integrate agents with internal infrastructure such as simulation flows, CI/regression systems, and lab equipment via tool-calling and MCP
• Champion adoption through documentation, training, and feedback loops

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building and shipping LLM-based agents or AI tooling
• Proficiency with Python and the ability to direct AI to write and debug code
• Experience with context engineering, tool integration, orchestration, and failure analysis
• An eval-driven mindset to measure AI system performance
• High agency and comfort with ambiguity
• Ability to ramp quickly on deeply technical domains like chip development

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with chip development (RTL/SystemVerilog, UVM, DFT, physical design, or FPGA)
• Knowledge of EDA tool flows and Tcl scripting
• Experience with fine-tuning, post-training (SFT, RLHF/DPO), or RAG
• Deep software engineering skills in C++ or Rust
• Experience with infrastructure tools like Docker, Slurm, or Ray
