Application Engineer

Responsibilities

• Join the application engineering team for 3M’s optical connector portfolio
• Guide small teams of technicians to complete requested tests
• Establish test plans and methods, prepare samples, conduct tests, analyze data, and complete test reports
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams on projects focused on improving operations
• Write SOPs and public-facing white papers regarding fiber optic product performance
• Interface with global teams to contribute to new product development and support existing platforms
• Ensure technical claims in published literature are accurate and supported by test data
• Work with marketing and business teams to engage with customers globally

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
• Three years of application engineering and product support experience in a private, public, government, or military environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in optical science, engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics
• Five years of fiber optic product engineering support experience
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering
• Ten years of previous technical experience with demonstrated engineering strength
• Knowledge of various laboratory test equipment
• Mechanical aptitude with designing and building test fixtures
• Experience interpreting industry standards, product qualification testing, fiber optics, and electrical components
• Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills
