About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily care and handling for laboratory animals
  • Identify and report clinical or behavioral signs of illness
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Standards
  • Mentor and provide training support to new animal technicians
  • Assist the animal care supervisor with administrative team functions
  • Perform high-skill tasks including hazard containment and advanced breeding techniques
  • Package and organize tissue samples for shipment
  • Assist Veterinary Technician staff with routine animal treatments and reports

Requirements

  • High School diploma and at least 2 years of paid animal experience (including 1 year in a laboratory animal setting)
  • ALAT (Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician) certification
  • Ability to obtain LAT (Laboratory Animal Technician) certification within 6 months of eligibility
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull equipment up to 1,000 pounds
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to animal dander and by-products

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree
  • Advanced knowledge of animal research, breeding procedures, and laboratory equipment
  • Experience working specifically with rodents
  • Knowledge of the principles of medical asepsis
