Animal Diet Technician

Responsibilities

• Prepare animal diets accurately in accordance with menu specifications
• Clean and sanitize food preparation areas, including counters, floors, coolers, and freezers
• Operate kitchen equipment such as grinders, blenders, food processors, and scales
• Unload supplies from trucks using a pallet jack
• Drive zoo vehicles to retrieve or deliver supplies and materials
• Maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and veterinarians

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of animal diet preparation and terminology
• Knowledge of safety practices when handling sharp kitchen utensils
• Ability to perform physical work in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 75 lbs with assistance
• Ability to stand and walk for 8–10 hour shifts
• Valid driver's license may be required

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a zoo setting
• Experience with animal diet preparation
• Experience in kitchen food preparation
