Animal Curator

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee daily animal management, husbandry routines, and environmental enrichment
• Supervise zoo staff, including keepers, volunteers, and trainees, providing guidance and skills development
• Manage animal nutrition, including food preparation, distribution, and coordination with the veterinary department
• Implement and monitor bio-security, health, and safety protocols to ensure the safety of visitors, staff, and animals
• Maintain accurate records of animal health, enclosure security checks, and population management data
• Oversee animal introductions, moves, restraints, and shipments
• Conduct regular inspections to detect illnesses or injuries and notify the veterinary team
• Support public engagement through scheduled talks and media initiatives to promote the zoo's mission
• Manage staff work schedules and participate in performance appraisals

Requirements

• At least 7 years of prior animal care experience in a controlled environment facility
• Degree in Zoology, BVSC, or a related field preferred
• Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to foster a team orientation
• Proficiency in English (verbal and written); Arabic is a plus
• Ability to perform strenuous physical work, including lifting at least 50 KG repetitively
• Knowledge of bio-safety, health, and safety procedures
• Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings, and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with the public
