Animal Care Specialist

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety, and proper care of all companion animals and aquatic life in accordance with Petco standards.
• Complete required animal care tasks, including hourly health checks, wellness documentation, and maintenance logs.
• Maintain professional, clean, and well-presented animal habitats and aquatic areas.
• Deliver knowledgeable and compassionate service to customers, acting as a primary resource for animal care education.
• Support department sales, merchandising, and inventory goals by ensuring products are stocked and correctly displayed.
• Assist with ordering live animals and supplies to maintain inventory integrity.
• Perform routine housekeeping duties such as cleaning tanks, sweeping, and mopping.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals and aquatic life.
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and maintenance practices.
• Proven customer service skills and an aptitude for selling.
• Basic math and inventory management skills.
• Ability to lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Completion of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program (required upon hire/training).
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
