Animal Care Specialist

Responsibilities

• Ensure the health, safety, and proper care of all companion animals and aquatic life according to Petco standards.
• Complete required animal care tasks, including hourly health checks, wellness documentation, and maintenance logs.
• Maintain clean and professional animal habitats and aquatic areas through routine housekeeping.
• Deliver knowledgeable and compassionate service to customers, acting as a primary resource for animal care education.
• Support department sales and inventory goals by ensuring merchandise is stocked, priced, and displayed correctly.
• Assist with ordering live animals and supplies to maintain inventory integrity.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with or caring for companion animals or aquatic life.
• Strong knowledge of animal husbandry and maintenance practices.
• Proven customer service skills and an aptitude for sales.
• Basic math and inventory management skills.
• Ability to lift and move merchandise, supplies, or animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to work in a retail environment with exposure to animal dander, odors, and cleaning chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of the Petco Animal Care Certification Program.
• Experience in a fast-paced retail or animal care setting.
