About the role
Responsibilities
- Define and implement long-term equipment strategy for battery cell and pack manufacturing
- Lead the entire equipment lifecycle from concept and specification to installation and commissioning
- Plan and lead the layout and installation of new battery manufacturing lines
- Act as a technical expert for battery manufacturing equipment and processes
- Manage vendors, negotiate specifications, and ensure on-time delivery
- Collaborate with design teams to optimize for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA)
- Drive continuous improvement for equipment performance, uptime, and yield
- Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and environmental compliance
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
Requirements
- 13+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering
- 8+ years focused on battery manufacturing equipment in automotive EV or high-volume industries
- Proven experience with factory layout planning and scaling manufacturing lines
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering
- Deep expertise in cell, module, and battery manufacturing processes
- Strong understanding of automation, robotics, machine vision, and control systems
- Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, 3DX, or AutoCAD
- Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale battery production
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing and Six Sigma
- Project management certification (e.g., PMP)
- Knowledge of battery cell chemistry and electrochemical principles
- Previous experience in a startup environment
