About the role
Responsibilities
- Build computational models of physical phenomena such as vented deflagrations, fire suppression, fire spread, and material thermal decomposition.
- Apply fundamental physics and chemistry to create models for lithium-ion battery thermal runaway and gas explosions.
- Perform engineering analyses, including pre-processing, post-processing, and documentation of simulation inputs and outputs.
- Assess project specifications, determine appropriate simulation tools, and analyze results for accuracy.
- Participate in hands-on laboratory work for model validation efforts.
- Complete technical reports detailing modeling strategies, approaches, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to manage projects and communicate timelines.
- Stay current with industry trends by reading scientific publications and presenting findings at academic or industry conferences.
Requirements
- BS in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, combustion science, or a related discipline.
- Advanced experience in modeling and simulation of fluid flows, combustion, and heat transfer.
- Proficiency with commercial CFD software and codes.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and interpret complex business challenges.
- Experience level: 10-14 years for BS holders, or 8-12 years for MS/PhD holders.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in a relevant engineering or science field.
- Experience modeling deflagrations and fire dynamics.
- Proficiency with specific software such as Ansys, OpenFoam, ConvergeCFD, FDS, or FLACS.
