About the Company

Thorin is an applied AI company born out of 8VC’s Build program, focused on redefining how work gets done inside modern organizations. We build proactive, long-horizon AI agents that continuously observe work across Slack, email, meetings, and documents to enable automation, coordination, and insight.

Responsibilities

• Develop novel machine learning research grounded in real-world product needs
• Explore new model architectures, training paradigms, and evaluation techniques
• Design, implement, and test ML/AI methods to improve model performance
• Build and refine datasets, metrics, and evaluations
• Partner with engineering, product, and data teams to translate research into production-ready algorithms
• Build prototypes and proof-of-concept models
• Track and contribute to the latest developments in ML, deep learning, and AI systems

Requirements

• Advanced degree (Master’s/Ph.D.) in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field
• Strong foundation in deep learning, probabilistic models, and large-scale AI systems
• Experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Ability to bridge research and product engineering
• Creative problem-solving skills in early-stage environments
• Excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Publications in NLP, representation learning, self-supervised learning, or workflow automation
• Experience with LLMs, retrieval systems, or structured reasoning models
• Prior work in enterprise AI or productivity automation
• Familiarity with fine-tuning, evaluation, or scaling foundation models
