AI Institute Fellow in Residence

Responsibilities

• Split time equally between pursuing specific research projects and supporting the AI Institute's strategic goals
• Propose and execute research projects aligned with Institute priorities, such as writing technical papers or contributing to open-source projects
• Support the design and exploration of new AI grantmaking programs in areas like safety, interpretability, and scientific discovery
• Review and assess research proposals across various AI domains
• Organize workshops, convenings, or working sessions to advance research in specific AI areas
• Represent Schmidt Sciences at external conferences and grantee gatherings

Requirements

• Recent PhD in AI or Computer Science
• Proven research expertise in one or more of the following: multi-agent systems (interoperability and communication), AI for scientific discovery, hardware-enabled verification of AI agreements, AI's impact on the labor market, or the science of trustworthy AI and alignment
• Ability to propose and complete specific, high-quality research projects within a 12-18 month timeframe
