About the role

Responsibilities

  • Assist with agroforestry site design, project planning, and research plot management
  • Implement and maintain irrigation, trellising, and pest-exclusion systems
  • Work with contractors to install plantings and plant protection hardware such as tree tubes and electric fencing
  • Perform daily site maintenance including mowing, tree pruning, pest management, and removing undesirable trees
  • Harvest crops as they become available
  • Collaborate with CSU staff, faculty, and students to collect and interpret data for research and Extension publications
  • Assist in organizing and hosting onsite field days

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agroforestry, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in tree crop agricultural systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain organizational records
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing, word processing, and data processing software
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agroforestry, or a related field
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a research setting
  • At least 2 years of experience working on a working orchard, tree farm, nursery, or similar tree-focused agricultural operation

About the Company

Central State University is a land-grant institution located in Wilberforce, Ohio. This 3-year, grant-funded role supports a NIFA 1890 Capacity-Building Grant project aimed at developing a research and demonstration agroforestry farm on the university campus.
