About the Company

The New York City Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) works every day to implement the city’s Human Rights Law through enforcement, education, and outreach. The Commission seeks to address historic and contemporary inequities to cultivate a city where everyone can live, work, and thrive free from discrimination.

Responsibilities

• Interview members of the public alleging claims of discrimination
• Conduct investigations into claims of discrimination and pattern or practice violations
• Negotiate resolutions of claims and draft settlement agreements
• Represent the Commission in mediation and litigation
• Represent the Commission before an Administrative Law Judge at conferences
• Engage in discovery, including taking and defending depositions
• Litigate cases at trial through the issuance of Commission orders
• Collaborate with the Community Relations Bureau to provide trainings
• Represent the Commission at community events and bar associations
• Serve as lead attorney on complex investigations or specialized projects

Requirements

• Admission to the New York State Bar
• One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar, or six months of service as an Agency Attorney Interne
• For Assignment Level II: one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience in relevant areas of law

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in areas of law related to human rights or civil rights enforcement
