After-school STEM Mentor

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging "Create New Worlds" lessons to groups of 5–12 students (ages 8–14)
• Lead high-energy, hands-on sessions focused on storytelling, game design thinking, and AI literacy
• Facilitate student collaboration and problem-solving in an interactive, non-lecture environment
• Utilize provided lesson plans and classroom technology (laptops, projectors, web tools) to run smooth sessions
• Participate in onboarding, training, and periodic coaching sessions

Requirements

• Must pass standard background checks for working with children
• Reliable transportation (car) to travel to schools and community centers across Chicago and surrounding suburbs
• Availability at least 3 days per week between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM
• Experience working with children in a group, classroom, or camp setting
• Comfort using classroom technology and basic web tools
• Strong communication skills and a high-energy facilitation style

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in classroom management
• Background in group teaching, camp counseling, or youth mentorship
• Interest in writing, art, game design, robotics, or STEM/STEAM fields
• Existing connections to schools or community organizations
