About the role
Responsibilities
- Audit lease agreements and tenant files to ensure documentation aligns with HUD, Fair Housing Act, and local housing ordinances
- Identify compliance deficiencies and coordinate corrective action plans with property management teams
- Prepare and submit required occupancy and compliance reports to government agencies and internal stakeholders
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready records of inspections, violations, and certifications
- Assist in preparing documentation for third-party audits, HUD reviews, and tax credit compliance reviews (LIHTC, Section 8, HOME, etc.)
- Respond to tenant inquiries regarding occupancy and habitability standards
- Conduct compliance training for property management and leasing staff on Fair Housing and occupancy standards
- Identify process gaps and recommend system or policy improvements to reduce compliance risk
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in property management, housing compliance, MOR and REAC, or a related regulatory role
- Working knowledge of Fair Housing laws, HUD regulations, and local occupancy codes
- Experience with affordable housing programs such as LIHTC, Section 8, or HOME
- Proficiency with Yardi and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
- Provision of TB test clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS) or Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) designation
- Experience working directly with government housing agencies
- Familiarity with accessibility standards including ADA and Section 504
