About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform hazardous duty in hypobaric and hyperbaric chambers, including exposure to high-pressure and high-altitude environments.
- Provide physiological training and formal lectures to NASA astronauts, aircrew, flight surgeons, and test subjects regarding flying and diving hazards.
- Act as a medical monitor and test team member during pressurized Human in the Loop (HITL) testing events.
- Support Medical Officers with basic medical evaluations, test documentation, and emergency response as a Basic Life Support first responder.
- Serve as a chamber crew member in various capacities, including observer, operator, recorder, dive supervisor, and crew chief.
- Conduct inspections of personal and student oxygen equipment and maintain accurate medical records and reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of related experience, or 10 years of equivalent related work experience.
- Graduate of an Army, Navy, or Air Force Aerospace Physiology specialist course.
- 3 years of practical experience teaching Aerospace Physiology.
- Experience with the operation and maintenance of low-pressure (hypobaric) chambers.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Ability to pass initial and annual NASA Lock Observer physical examinations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of emergency medical hyperbaric treatment and medical terminology.
- Experience with the proper usage of medical supplies and medications.
- Ability to complete and maintain EMT-Basic certification with Texas State licensure within 12 months.
