About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide academic counseling to undergraduate students regarding policies, programs, and educational planning.
- Support students in assessing alternatives and managing the impact of their academic decisions.
- Perform resource referrals by connecting students with campus-based services, faculty, and career education.
- Oversee academic progress by maintaining records for academic plans, leaves of absence, and graduation clearance.
- Lead programming activities for the Columbia Undergraduate Scholars Program (CUSP), including curriculum development and assessment.
- Manage crisis situations in collaboration with relevant university offices and partner departments.
- Support large-scale university programming such as New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Class Day.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent related experience.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with college students (e.g., academic advising, teaching, mentoring, or undergraduate administration).
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage crises and handle sensitive student situations.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects.
- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree.
- Experience in career counseling, academic support programs, residential life, or general student affairs administration.
