Advising Dean

Responsibilities

• Provide academic counseling to undergraduate students regarding policies, programs, and educational planning.
• Support students in assessing alternatives and managing the impact of their academic decisions.
• Perform resource referrals by connecting students with campus-based services, faculty, and career education.
• Oversee academic progress by maintaining records for academic plans, leaves of absence, and graduation clearance.
• Lead programming activities for the Columbia Undergraduate Scholars Program (CUSP), including curriculum development and assessment.
• Manage crisis situations in collaboration with relevant university offices and partner departments.
• Support large-scale university programming such as New Student Orientation, Family Weekend, and Class Day.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent related experience.
• Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with college students (e.g., academic advising, teaching, mentoring, or undergraduate administration).
• Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage crises and handle sensitive student situations.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects.
• Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree.
• Experience in career counseling, academic support programs, residential life, or general student affairs administration.
