About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct primary health care to patients in the Surgical ICU in collaboration with consulting physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, take patient histories, and perform physical examinations.
  • Develop and manage patient care plans, including ordering laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as lumbar punctures, PICC line placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
  • Act as a liaison between nurses, patients, families, and physicians to coordinate care.
  • Evaluate outcomes of care and initiate necessary changes in nursing or medical approaches.
  • Participate in quality assurance, clinical research, and the teaching of students and residents.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree from an accredited nursing or physician assistant program.
  • Current Illinois APN license or PA licensure.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • AANC certification (ACNP/ANP-BC) for NPs or NCCPA certification for PAs.
  • ACLS certification.
  • ICU certification.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in critical care settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of critical care clinical nursing experience.
  • Proficiency in the use of medical computer systems.
  • Previous experience in an ICU environment.
