Advanced Practice Provider (NP, PA), Surgical ICU

Responsibilities

• Provide direct primary health care to patients in the Surgical ICU in collaboration with consulting physicians and multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct comprehensive health assessments, take patient histories, and perform physical examinations.
• Develop and manage patient care plans, including ordering laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures.
• Perform clinical procedures such as lumbar punctures, PICC line placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
• Act as a liaison between nurses, patients, families, and physicians to coordinate care.
• Evaluate outcomes of care and initiate necessary changes in nursing or medical approaches.
• Participate in quality assurance, clinical research, and the teaching of students and residents.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in nursing or physician assistant studies from an accredited institution.
• Valid Illinois APN license or PA licensure.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• For NPs: AANC certification (ACNP/ANP-BC).
• For PAs: NCCPA certification and ICU certification.
• ACLS certification.
• Demonstrated clinical competency in critical care settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of critical care clinical nursing experience.
• Previous experience working in an ICU environment.
• Proficiency in the use of medical computer systems.
